Swapnopuran Welfare Society started the month of February on a high note. On 05th February 2022 Vasant Panchami – the festival dedicated to goddess Saraswati, the goddess of knowledge, language, music, and all arts – was celebrated with much festivity across all the branches of Swapnopuron Shiksha Niketan. Dressed in bright yellow attire – the colour of spring and the favourite colour of Maa Saraswati – parents, teachers and students participated equally in the celebrations.

Another positive note was the Government permitting schools to resume normal operations from 16th February. It was truly heart-warming to see children walking into the schools after nearly two years – the excitement was palpable.

On 26th January 2022, SWS had inaugurated our 4th community library at Samsernagar, in collaboration with Kolkata Ramkrishna Mission World Wide Alumni Association and Chhaya Prakashani. This initiative was met with much enthusiasm and appeals from local students and parents to run tutorial classes. In response to these requests, we launched after-school tutorials for Government school students at Samsernagar on February 07th, 2022. A pilot English grammar class and a Mathematics class was conducted by Mr Bisash Biswas and Ms Swati Das, respecitively, in the courtyard of the Samsernagar library.

On 10th February 2022, a special session on “Feeling Faces” was conducted by our school psychologist, Ms. Shabari Sarkar at the Bena branch of Swapnopuran Shiksha Niketan.  “Feeling Faces” involves therapeutic exercises that help children with self-regulation, emotional awareness, self-control. The session helped the children to identify, connect and share emotions with each other through balloons, physical exercise, emotional cards, motor activities and story-telling.

Thanks to the generosity of a supporter, who wishes to remain anonymous, a Canon Photocopy machine was installed at Swapnopuron Shiksha Niketan. This much needed equipment is of tremendous support to the school.

Saturday February 26, 2022, was an eventful day for Swapnopuron Welfare Society. A computer centre was inaugurated at Swapnopuron Shiksha Niketan (SSN) – the main school in Hingalganj. Four desktops were installed under the aegis of The Rotary Club of Benevolence, Kolkata. In partnership with SSN, the Club launched “PEHCHAAN” a computer literacy programme for rural India.

This was followed by the opening of a book bank of text and reference books under the Club’s “Unnati” initiative.

As a part of green initiative, nearly 50 trees were planted under a plantation drive.

A fancy-dress competition for school children drew enthusiastic participation.

All these activities ended with a community lunch for over 70 people under the “Aahar” programme of the Club. SWS is deeply grateful to Mr. Kaushik Sen (President) and The Rotary Club of Benevolence, Kolkata for partnering with us to launch their social welfare programs.

The young scientists of Swapnopuron Siksha Niketan celebrated National Science Day on February 28th. Children across all classes and age groups participated enthusiastically, ably supported by their teachers. Charts ranging from clean water and energy, to hydraulic brakes to part of the body were made and explained by the students. Teachers conducted experiments on filtration, vacuum, water cycle, germination, among others to clarify the concepts.
