Bikash Biswas

“Education is the most powerful weapon which can use to change the world.”

                                                                                          -Nelson Mandela

It is not easy to travel to the remotest areas of Sundarbans and provide education to children.  Mr. Bikash Biswas, a teacher of Swapnopuron Shiksha Niketan since 2018, has the zeal to make his students capable and educated human beings. After completing his education in 2007, he started his career as a teacher at the Hingalganj Island in Sundarbans, after which he joined Swapnapuron Shiksha Niketan. The ideology of the school, which is to empower the community in Sundarbans through education, had struck a chord in his mind.

Bikash is very enthusiastic about the empowerment of children from the community. When he started his career, he had only two options in front of him; either choose teaching as a profession in his village or move away to the city for any other job. He chose to provide quality education to children.

A man with undying determination, Bikash has inspired many others with his journey and is one of the key architects in the expansion of Swapnopuron Shiksha Niketan. From day one, he has aimed to make every child adequately educated by providing them quality school education. During the lockdown period of the COVID-19 pandemic and the Amphan super cyclone, Bikash served through his relief work by providing 76000 meals to the victims who had lost everything during the disaster. Even after the lockdown ended, Bikash had continued his relief work to serve the most underprivileged villagers of Sundarbans. Bikash has also started taking the door to door surveys to understand the educational and guidance-related needs of the children. After that, Bikash, with the help of some other teachers of Hingalganj, extended the operation of Swapnopuron Shiksha Niketan by creating the branches at Chhoto Sahebkhali, Charalkhali, Haridaskati, Malekanghumti and Kalitala, some remotest areas of the Sundarbans, Paschim Khejurberia in Rupamari Panchayat, Bainara, Dhanikhali in Bishpur Panchayat and Bena, Mahishpukur, Chakpatli in the Hasnabad block. He claims that the Swapnopuron Welfare Society gave him the platform to reach out to those deprived people, learn about their situation and educate their children.

Meditation is the key that helps Bikash to focus all the time. Bikash has stated that his biggest inspiration is Mrs. Satarupa Majumder, Chief Functionary of Swapnopuron Welfare Society.

Bikash dedicates his work towards making every child learn English. He believes that learning English is one of the most important things in today’s life. He also thinks if the children learn English and can sustain the learning, they will get appropriate jobs in the future. According to Mr. Bikash, the lack of awareness in the interiors of Sundarbans is a major challenge. As most of the parents are illiterate, they are not aware of the benefits of education.

This is why Bikash and other teachers have been organizing awareness camps and home visits to aware people and letting them know about the benefits of education.

Bikash stated that the community felt the need for education after getting aware, they extended their support to him. Bikash and his team are currently running four branches apart from their main campus at Hingalganj Jora Battala. He also claims that two more branches will be open very soon.

With this passion in his heart, Bikash Biswas is doing a wonderful job, and we couldn’t have been luckier to have teachers like him in our team.
